A Collection of five Emile Galle, & two Daum Cameo Glass vases.

Emile Galle:

One of the most innovative and famous craftsman of his time, Galle pioneered and invented many glass casting & etching processes. His early products often enameled in thick relief and harmonious colours, his surfaces treated with acid, or the addition of glass cabochons to enhance textural interest.

At the exhibition of 1889,  Galle revealed his 'verre double'; vases of a single colour glass encased in one or more layers of different glass which were subsequently etched selectively to produce designs in relief, producing a Cameo style.

Daum Brothers:

Makers of decorative domestic glassware, the Daum Brothers Auguste & Antonin turned to art glass production following the 1889 Paris exhibition, much influenced by Emille Galle's cameo techniques & production.

Their representation and production of cameo glass displays a competency in artistic form near unrivalled by the Nancy artists.

Nancy:

Of all the towns of France, Nancy is perhaps the only one which can pride itself in having, during the latter part of the 19th Century, given birth to a group of decorative artists of distinct originality and innovation.

The floral flow of the Art Nouveau model was faithfully represented and adapted by the craftsmen of Daum. Such scenes as forests, glades, lakes and shells were skillfully etched and carved from glass, ultimately contributing to the greater cameo art glass movement.
