The name of these chests, Armada Chest, was a fanciful Victorian invention recalling chests imagined to be used by the Spanish Armada. In fact they were made in the next century of the heaviest iron construction by German craftsmen.They were sold to the sailing nations, including Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and England. Used to transport and secure gold, silver, documents and other valuables, once loaded and locked, they would be incredibly difficult to move. Two men struggle to lift this example.
