Auction House features a mix of colourful characters, antique road-shows and behind-the-scenes stories about art, artefacts and antiques going under the hammer.

The eccentric Dunbar Senior and his son, Dunbar Junior are the third and fourth generation of auction dynasty Dunbar Sloane.

Auction House follows Senior and Junior through a range of auctions at their new premises in Auckland - an ideal venue for selling everything from a classic Porsche to Maori artefacts, colonial furniture and New Zealand art, including yet another of the infamous Helen Clark 'doodles'.

The show follows the adventures of Dunbar Sloane's Wellington branch, with art expert Helena Walker as she auctions a rare collection of fine art which belonged to playwright Bruce Mason and his wife, obstetrician Diana Mason.

The Auction House team tag along with auctioneer Anthony Gallagher as he sells a remarkable collection of 1940s and 1950s jukeboxes at a rock'n'roll museum on the Kapiti Coast.

Auction House also joins roving experts Peter Wedde and Hamish Walsh, as they host antique roadshows and value private collections. The duo unearth hidden treasures from as far away as Oamaru and Ashburton in the south, to Makarau and Matakohe in the north.
